thirty-seven weeks.

Date/How Far Along: August 6, 2013 = 37 weeks and 3 days.  Eighteen days until our Guess Date and no more than thirty-two days until Baby Hammar is here!
Size of baby:  Watermelon (See photo below)  Baby Averages: 18.9-20.9 inches long and 6.2-9.2 pounds.
Sleep: I've had to pee so much in the night, but I also drink lots of water before and while I'm sleeping.  It seems to keep my leg cramps at bay, so I'm not going to change that.  I'm still tired most of the time, but it's not going to change once he comes :)
Total Weight Gain:  At my appointment last Friday I was 160.8 so I think that means I've gained 27 pounds total.  I can't remember if I started at 133.6 or .8.  Since I only have a few weeks left I hope that means only a little more weight gained.  I have appointments with the midwife every week up until he comes, so I'll have an update every week.
Symptoms:  John is still being a gentleman and helps me get out of chairs or off the floor where I choose to put on my socks and shoes.  I've still been having a lot of groin pain and lots of pressure down there, which is apparently normal because he should be moving down.  I've been having Braxton Hicks contractions as well.  Thankfully my uterus is practicing :)
Movement:  So much stretching and he is STRONG!  His feet stick out on my right side that it feels like I'm going to burst open.  It's crazy.  I love knowing when he's awake and when he's sleeping.  He is very active at night after I eat supper.  I'm worried that I'm going to feel sad that he won't be inside me anymore.  I'm ready to stop feeling heavy and sore, but I think I'm going to have to babywear a lot!
Maternity Clothes:  Yup.  My athletic clothes are starting to get tight.  I've been wearing these "Simbad" pants, as John calls them.  They are actually pre-pregnancy pants from Victoria's Secret.  I think they're meant to be a swimsuit cover-up.  I got a robe to bring with to the hospital :)
Go-to eats:   Salad and cheese.  Ice cream.  Last night I wanted alfredo so bad, but we didn't have any.  It was a big bummer.  I actually still really want it.  I might have to stop on my way home.  I've been craving Mexican food too.
Best moment/s of the week:  Getting closer and closer to our guess date.  Having time with John and Comet.
Hardest moment/s of the week:  I'm doing great.  I'm just ready to be done :)
Gender:  He's going to be my sweet boy!

What I wish people knew: Breastfeeding is a little scary.  I'm nervous it'll be hard and I won't be able to do it.  It's just something that is very important to me and I really want both myself and the babe to be successful at it.
What I’m looking forward to:   Hanging out with my momma on Friday to celebrate her birthday.  She gets to come with me to my midwife appointment.  It'll probably be one of the last times I get to hang out with her without babe.  Having him be in my arms.  I cannot wait!  I can't wait to watch John hold him either.  I'm almost sure my heart is going to burst!
Milestones:  You are preparing for birth!  Bring it on babe!  I'm ready when you are!

thirty-six weeks.

Date/How Far Along: July 30, 2013 = 36 weeks and 2 days.  Twenty-six days until our Guess Date and no more than forty days until Baby Hammar is here!
Size of baby:  Baby Averages from 36 Weeks: 17.2-18.7 inches and 4.2-5.8 pounds.
Sleep: On Saturday night I slept six hours without waking up.  It was so wonderful :)  Otherwise sleep has been fine.  Uncomfortable sometimes, but for the most part I still can't complain.  He'll be out soon and I'm sure my sleep will be worse than it is now.
Total Weight Gain:  I have another appointment on Friday, which starts my weekly appointment schedule, so I will know about gain every week from now on.  I'm so close that a few extra pounds don't really bother me.  (At least when I say it out loud, seeing it on the scale might produce a different taste in my mouth.)
Symptoms:  I'm waddling and sometimes have to have John help me out of chairs.  I previously thought to myself I never wanted to be "that" pregnant lady.  I've been humbled :)  I'm still experiencing the weird groin pain and lots of hip pressure/pain/stiffness.  I'm not sure if John would say this but I feel like I've been more emotional too, at least over the weekend.
Movement:  He was SO active last night and I even captured some on video.  While I was taping though John looked over and was so excited that he could see it too.  I love when he's excited about the baby.  He's going to be such a great dad.  I've still been feeling lots of hiccups and lots of wiggles, not so much jabs anymore, but that's normal when they get bigger and have less room to move around.
Maternity Clothes:  Yup, bought my first few nursing tank tops and a bra.  It felt funny.  Sidenote: John and I don't take plastic bags from stores if we only have a few things and I forget my reusable bags in the car.  The cashier at Babies R Us was so funny because we told her that and she very adamantly said, "She doesn't want anyone seeing her bra!"  John and I got a good chuckle out of it because I honestly could care less if people see my bra or any other unmentionables I buy :)  I've been trying to pack our hospital bag, which currently is spread around on the kitchen table, and I can't decide which clothing to bring.  I've gotten suggestions from friends, so hopefully that'll help narrow it down.
Go-to eats:   Taco Salad!  We're having it for supper and I've been looking forward to it since Saturday when we decided that's what we were going to have.  I've been craving fresh fruit, so I've eaten lots of peaches and raspberries from our bush outside.
Best moment/s of the week:  We had a very great week.  We got lots of walks in, three with John and one with a friend.  I got to see a few other pregnant friends and my sister Erin on Friday and see my family on Saturday for breakfast.  John and I got a lot done around the house and bought a few things we didn't have yet for the baby on Saturday.  It was a very productive weekend even though I'm exhausted today.  Looking forward to our taco salad will keep me going.
Hardest moment/s of the week:  Being exhausted.  Knowing that we're getting closer and closer to the labor and delivery part.  I'm so excited to meet him and know that we'll have a baby regardless of how he ends up coming into the world, but I'm still a little anxious.
Gender:  The babe is a boy.  I'm sure he'll be handsome like his daddy.

What I wish people knew:  I am so thankful for all the thoughtfulness people have shown us throughout this pregnancy, whether it's gifts for the babe, a kind comment or an offer of help around the house.  We're so blessed by family and friends.
What I’m looking forward to:  Seeing John's mom tonight, we have to bring her to the airport early tomrrow morning.  I'm actually looking forward to my midwife appointment on Friday.  Having lunch with John's grandparents next Sunday.
Milestones: You're shedding the downy hair that's covered you for the past few months and your hearing is fulling developed.

thirty-five weeks.

Date/How Far Along: July 23, 2013 = 35 weeks and 3 days.  Happy birthday to Uncle Karl from baby!
Size of baby:  Baby Averages from 35 Weeks:  He's probably a little over 5 pounds and it between 16-20 inches long.  One source said he's the size of a roasting chicken.  Possibly one of the worst references yet.
Sleep: I feel like a light switch went off and now I have to get up at least twice per night to pee and then getting comfortable again is near impossible.  I'm still getting some good sleep, but I'm usually tired.  The pillow still does help, but it is just not easy between bathroom runs, a huge bump and back pain.
Total Weight Gain:  I had gained nothing at my last appointment and the midwife said that was just fine.  He probably had a growth spurt before my last appointment.  I was also measuring a week bigger than I was supposed to which also can indicate a growth spurt.  Due to how happy I was about not gaining another 4.5 pounds I got Wendy's for Comet and I on my way home.
Symptoms:  I asked the midwife about the groin pain and apparently it's totally normal and lots of women actually experience it.  It just has to do with all the pressure down there.  It's gotten tolerable and John is less worried every time I have to stop because of it.  I have been having lots of back pain this week which I assume is just the extra weight plus having to carry Miss B around at work.  I just try to continually change positions throughout the day in hopes that I ease the stress on my muscles.  I've been having very positive dreams about labor, delivery and breastfeeding as well.  It makes my mornings so much more positive.  I know he's coming (in no more than 6.5 weeks) and I know I can do it.
Movement:  He's still wonderfully active even when it hurts :)  John has been touching my tummy more often to feel him and I love that.  The baby also seems to be especially excited when John and I talk to each other and he can hear both of our voices.  I've been feeling lots of hiccups!  Apparently my movements have also changed, my sweet grandma said to me on Sunday, "You know you're walking more like a duck these days."  I swore I didn't want to be the pregnant woman who waddles around and can't get out of chairs without help, but it's happened and I wouldn't trade it :)
Maternity Clothes:  Still a mix of both, but depending on what I'm wearing it can be more of one or the other.  I wore all regular clothes yesterday.
Go-to eats:   I haven't had any strong cravings except for today.  I am meeting a friend for lunch and we decided on a place, but I couldn't stop thinking about a sandwich at a different place so she graciously said she'd go there with me instead.  I have been craving sushi so much, so that's another reason I will be so happy when this baby comes out.
Best moment/s of the week:  We got to tour the birth center last Wednesday and that was reassuring.  It was still under construction when we saw it the first time, so it was nice to see what a room with a birthing tub looked like.  The tubs look great too which makes me more excited for our water birth!  I also got to see lots of family this weekend because we had our last baby shower.  It was such a blessing to have my grandparents drive up here from Nebraska for it.  I want them to be as involved as possible in the baby's life, so it was so nice.
Hardest moment/s of the week:  My sister and brother-in-law's puppy Sandy got hit by a car.  We are heartbroken and I feel worse because I know my sister is really sad about it.  We will really miss her!  Erin said though that she just got sent up to heaven for our grandpa's first heaven birthday.  I'm sure they're up there running and playing :)
Gender:  We are so excited about bringing a boy into the world.

What I wish people knew:  I don't mind when most people touch my belly.  I haven't had a complete stranger do it yet, so that might be a little silly, but for the most part I haven't minded at all.
What I’m looking forward to:  Another weekend of just our family of four, John, Comet, baby and I.  We'll probably try to get some more housework done, but hopefully we can find time to relax and enjoy each other's company.  I'm excited to see the few friends I get to see this week too!
Milestones: You are really focusing on gaining weight.  Most of your development is complete, so gaining weight is the next step to preparing for your entrance into the world.

Have fun running and playing with Grandpa Morris little Sandy girl!  We love you!

thirty-four weeks.

Date/How Far Along: July 15, 2013 = 34 weeks and 2 days. It's only 40 days until our guess date and 54 days until we are 42 weeks.  The midwives will not let us go later than 42 weeks, so in 54 days or less we'll have a baby to hold in our arms.  Holy buckets!  Yay!

Size of baby:  We quit trying to compare his size to an object.  Here's baby averages for 34 weeks:  17.2-18.7 inches long and 4.2-5.8 pounds.

Sleep:  I think I have to say it's still going well.  There are nights that are worse than others and it is getting harder to find a comfortable position, but I'm still getting more than I'll get after baby comes.  For that I'm thankful.

Total Weight Gain:  I'm hoping it's not a large amount more than at my last appointment, but I have an appointment on Friday, so we'll see.

Symptoms:  The worst part is my upper thigh and groin muscles.  I'm not trying to be too graphic about it, but they are sore.  Sometimes they feel like they're being pulled so tight that I have to stop walking or doing whatever I'm doing.  It's weird.  It's not something I've heard others talk about or that I've read about.

Movement:  He's so active and it's wonderful, but not always.  haha!  Honestly sometimes his twists and turns hurt.  He's so strong.  For the longest time it felt like he only sat on the right side of my abdomen, but now it feels like he's everywhere in there.  Poor guy is probably running out of room.  His movements have started to feel more like twists and turns too, opposed to kicks and jabs.

Maternity Clothes:  Not today, but I'm only wearing athletic clothing.  I'm surprised at how well some of my regular clothes still fit.  If I knew I may not have bought as many maternity pieces.  I haven't bought a lot, but good fitting pants/jeans/bottoms have been really important to me.  T-shirts have no been quite as important.  I know I still have a little ways to go, but I can't imagine growing out of all my shirts by then.  We'll see though I guess.

Go-to eats: For a long while I was loving chocolate covered raisins, but the last few days they made me feel sick.  We're having taco salad tonight or tomorrow and I'm definitely looking forward to that.  I've been craving Pizza Hut bread sticks, but I haven't eaten any because I've had such an issue with salt.  I don't want to eat them and then feel nasty afterwards.

Best moment/s of the week:  We had the entire weekend to ourselves.  We got some house projects done, although the house looks worse than it did when we started.  We went to Menards.  We got breakfast together on Sunday morning.  We got to go to church.  We played with Comet.  It was so blissful and I'm so thankful for it!  I also got to meet a friend's baby and see my last nanny family :)

Hardest moment/s of the week:  There wasn't really anything hard about last week.  I'm thankful for that.

Gender:  Little Hammar is a Mr.

What I wish people knew:  John has been my greatest support through all of this.  He's great.

What I’m looking forward to:  We are touring the birth center on Wednesday evening and we have our last baby shower on Sunday.  My grandparents from Nebraska are coming so it will be fun to see them.  I'm so happy to get to include them in this exciting part of our lives.

Milestones: You can recognize simple songs.  I told your dad I'm trying to get you to love country music before you even come out, so hopefully they're simple enough :)

thirty-three weeks.

Date/How Far Along: July 9, 2013 = 33 weeks and 3 days.

Size of baby:  Steering Wheel.  At this point we're making them up as we go.

Sleep:  It's still going okay, most nights pretty good.  I'm waking up to go to the bathroom once or twice, but I'm most often able to go right back to sleep.  I have no complaints.

Total Weight Gain:  At my midwife appointment last week I was up to 158 pounds.  Argh.  That means I gained like four pounds in ten days.  My midwife said it was completely fine because I've been a stair step gainer, meaning I gain a bunch and plateau.  It still felt gross, even though it could've been from the take-out Thai food and wonderful bread pudding we had the night before.  I'm trying to prep myself for the fact that I will probably be at 160 at my next appointment.  It's not fun for me to think about.

Symptoms:  I'm sore and exhausted most of the time, but I'm just pretty sure it comes along with the territory.  He's coming soon and I can't complain.

Movement: He's so busy in there and I love it.  Yesterday was really hot and he slowed down quite a bit from usual so I was worried, but he picked it back up towards the end of the day, so I'm sure he's doing great.  It was the first time I felt a little worried about it though.

Maternity Clothes:  Yup.  There isn't much else to say about it.

Go-to eats:  Nothing special although I've been wanting cheese so bad and we don't have any at home right now :(  I did get to pick fresh strawberries and make jam with my mom, dad and grandma this past weekend, so I ate SO many fresh berries.  There's honestly not many tastes better than fresh picked berries.

Best moment/s of the week: Spending time with my family.  It's rare that we get more than one full day with our families and it was so nice to spend so much uninterrupted time with them.  I got to pick strawberries with my mom and dad, which is something I used to do with my grandpa who passed away last summer.  We made jam with my grandma after that in the afternoon.  It's fun to keep traditions alive.

Hardest moment/s of the week:  Being without John for a few days.  He had a wonderful time on his little mancation though and I'm so thankful for that.

Gender:  Our babe is a boy.

What I wish people knew:  It's hard to feel fully prepared, but I think that's okay because nothing can fully prepare me for being a new momma.
What I’m looking forward to:  Going to the farmer's market with John on Saturday morning.  We don't have any plans all weekend and just the thought of that is so exciting!  I also get to meet a friend from Blooma and her baby on Friday afternoon.

Milestones: Your bones are hardening and you're starting to keep your eyes open when you're awake.

thirty-two weeks = eight months!

Date/How Far Along: July 1, 2013 = 32 weeks and 2 days.
Size of baby:  Loaf of Bread.  These comparisons are getting frustrating because we honestly have no idea how accurate they are plus they're starting to seem silly.  He's gaining weight, but probably not much more height.
Sleep:  I honestly still can't complain about sleep.  I have my bad nights, but most are tolerable and I've grown accustomed to occasional waking.  I would still recommend the pregnancy pillow to anyone and everyone because I honestly feel it's helped me.  John said he's had to nudge me to roll over from being on my back a few nights, but I don't usual remember.  I have had to deal with a few nights with leg cramps again and I've decided it happens when I haven't had enough water.
Total Weight Gain:  I would guess around 21.5 or 22, but my midwife appointment is on Wednesday so I'll find out then.
Symptoms: My hips hurt, but thankfully yoga really seems to help.  I've had a few bouts of feeling nauseous, but we're pretty sure it's due to exhaustion and heat.  I just have to continue to remember to take it easy.
Movement:  So much and it's so wonderful.  A few of John's family members got to feel him on Friday night, which was fun.  I love when other people find so much joy in it like I do every day :)  He's definitely a little mover!  One morning last week it felt like he kept walking back and forth on my stomach.  It was so weird feeling.  I'm not sure if it was actual kicks or if he was just rolling over.  I honestly wish there was some kind of recording device so I could save some of the kicks forever!
Maternity Clothes: During the week I'm usually sporting athletic clothing, so actually today I don't have anything maternity on.  If I have to dress up or just wear jeans my bottoms are always maternity.  Some of my t-shirts still fit, but only the long ones.  The short ones fan out too much.
Go-to eats:  I made Chicken Alfredo Pizza last night which was delicious!  I'm making taco salad for supper tonight which I'm very excited about :)  Food is just exciting overall.  He much be growing.
Best moment/s of the week:  There were SO many great moments last week!  I got to take Betsy on a field trip to Target and Mall of America on Thursday which was also the day I got to see John's sister's family that we haven't seen since January.  We had a fun baby shower on Friday night with John extended family, so it was fun to see all of them as well!  On Saturday we got to spend time with my grandma and tell my youngest sister some exciting news and have our maternity photo session (can't wait to show off the photos)!  It was a wonderful weekend!
Hardest moment/s of the week: Being exhausted by the end of all the fun.  I felt so sick!
Gender:  Our babe is a little guy.

What I wish people knew:  It's hard not to be nervous or scared about labor and delivery, especially now that it's getting so close!

What I’m looking forward to: Spending time with family this coming weekend over the 4th.  I do have to drop John off at the airport on Thursday because he's going on a trip, so I'm not looking forward to that.
Milestones: You are practicing skills you will need outside your baby palace, like sucking and breathing and kicking and swallowing.

Monday, June 24, 2013

thirty-one weeks.

Date/How Far Along: June 24, 2013 = 31 weeks and 2 days.

Size of baby:  Soccer Ball.  We realize a basketball and a soccer ball are very similar, but the baby is gaining weight and very slowly gaining a few more inches in height.

Sleep:   It hasn't been too bad.  The worst is him kicking me at 4am when I wake up to go pee and then can't fall back to sleep.  We slept in a hotel Friday and Saturday night for Grandma's Marathon and the beds there did not help my sleep.  I was very thankful to be back in my own bed last night.  I do find the lack of blankets that I use funny.  I'm usually completely snuggled in but lately I am so warm that I have a blanket under my leg wrapped around my hips and my belly just wiggles out of my shirt while I'm sleeping.  I'm sure it's a hilarious sight to John.
Total Weight Gain:  I gained one more pound so I'm up to 154, so 21 pounds.  I'm not upset about it, just amazed at how pregnancy has changed my body.

Symptoms:  Minor aches and pains, nothing major.  I'm so thankful.

Movement:  Lately he has been stretching a lot and so my sides hurt because he pushes so hard against them.  On Friday the midwife showed my sister Hannah how to find his knees and feet, so she had a fun time this weekend finding where he was sticking out.

Maternity Clothes:  I didn't quite conquer my swimsuit fear at the hotel, John made me.  Wearing the bikini with other people around makes me feel like I'm back in high school and people are whispering about me.  It didn't take a long time for the feeling to pass though and we just hung out at the pool for a while.  I'm still trying to wear some of my pre-pregnancy t-shirts, but I don't know how much longer it will last.  They are really starting to fan out.  I might end up with the bottom of my bump showing soon.

Go-to eats:  I haven't really been opposed to anything, but still love tacos.  I've still had a lot of trouble with too much salt and just feel incredibly gross afterwards.

Best moment/s of the week:  Cheering Hannah and John on at Grandma's Marathon this past weekend.  I'm proud of Hannah for finishing her first and John his second!

Hardest moment/s of the week:  Saying goodbye to my favorite yoga teacher.  She had to move to California with her family.  She will truly be missed!

Gender:  He's a boy.

What I wish people knew:  I honestly had a great one yesterday, but of course today is has completely vanished into thin air.  Thought of it!  I wish everyone knew how strong women are.  I am not a feminist by any means, but I'm amazed at the choices women make for themselves, their babies and their families.  I'm impressed by the lengths they'll go to to have a family.  To anyone every women out there, you are strong!
What I’m looking forward to:  We get to see John's sister and family and his extended family this weekend for a shower and we have maternity photos on Saturday.  So excited!

Milestones:  You are going through a large amount of brain and nerve development this week.  All five of your senses are also functioning :)

thirty weeks.

Date/How Far Along: June 18, 2013 = 30 weeks and 3 days.

Size of baby: Basketball

Sleep: I slept without my pillow for the first time on Saturday night and it's wasn't pretty.  Lots of restlessness and waking up.  I am often tired, but I have been trying to make sure I'm in bed before 10pm.

Total Weight Gain:  I only know up to the 20 pound mark, but have another appointment this Friday, so I'll get an update.  I feel like he's gaining weight really fast now because I'm always hungry!

Symptoms:  Just some back pain.  I experienced swollen feet for the first time and I had to chuckle at them because I honestly couldn't recognize my own feet.  I guess it was just another way of my body telling me to drink more water and to sit down and take a break.

Movement:  So much and he's so strong!  On Father's Day my mom, sisters, brother, grandma and mother-in-law got to feel him.  He kicks really hard when I lay on one of my sides.  They all loved feeling him and I love watching them experience it.

Maternity Clothes:  Yup, except for my swimsuit.  I've been rocking my bikini in the backyard.  We are headed to Duluth this weekend to watch John and my sister Hannah run Grandma's Marathon.  The hotel has a pool and I might bring my maternity swimsuit because I'm not sure my confidence level is quite high enough for a hotel.

Go-to eats:  I've eaten a lot of pickles recently.  Asian food.  We've been eating lots of carbs for John to load up for the marathon.  I don't feel like I've been having strong cravings for anything in particular, but I'm so hungry all the time!

Best moment/s of the week:  Celebrating Father's Day with John, my dad, John's dad, and John's grandpa Jack.  I got to spend some much needed time with my mom on Sunday morning because I sleep poorly :)  We also finally connected with some friends for supper.

Hardest moment/s of the week:  Missing John.  I don't know what it is sometimes, I just miss him.

Gender:  I'm carrying a little guy.

What I wish people knew:  Support, kind words and gifts go a long way.  I feel loved because I've found out the baby is already so loved.  It's been such a blessing.

What I’m looking forward to: Cheering John and Hannah on while they run their marathon this weekend.  Seeing my aunt Barb and other family this Friday.

Milestones:  Your grip is now strong enough to grasp a finger and you're continuing to gain weight.

twenty-nine weeks.

Date/How Far Along: June 10, 2013 = 29 weeks and 2 days.  We're already starting appointments every two weeks!
Size of baby: Kettle Bell
Sleep: Sleep is hit or miss most nights.  I've been sleeping like a rock for the past few nights, but there were days last week where I felt so exhausted.  I'm still thankful for my pregnancy pillow and have recently discovered a lot of back pain relief in our recliner.  I have fallen asleep there a few evenings.
Total Weight Gain:  Exactly 20 pounds since starting.  I started at 133 and was 153 pounds a day shy of 29 weeks.
Symptoms:  Not much physically, except minors aches.  Emotionally though I've started to feel scared.  He's coming soon and I am SO excited to meet him, but I'm still scared.  I'll probably write a whole post about it this week.
Movement:  Lots and I'm trying to savor every bit of it, since I have no idea what the future holds.
Maternity Clothes:  Yup, there isn't much else to say about it :)  They are so much more comfortable than regular clothes.  I have decided though that I really like the full panel pants.  I didn't think I would because honestly they look a little ridiculous (See photo :), but I think they provide some great tummy support.  I don't think I would buy any other kind for future pregnancies.
Go-to eats:  Tacos.  Meat.  I've been having a rough time with salt.  If we eat out I've noticed that my body is not happy if there was lots of salt.
Best moment/s of the week:  Having some great heart to heart talks with John.  It's been such a blessing for me to be able to express my fears to him.  He's patient with me too because I get extra emotional when I talk about my feelings.
Hardest moment/s of the week:  Being scared.
Gender:  The baby will be wearing a onesie that says, "Handsome like Daddy."

What I wish people knew:  I have nothing this week.  I hope everyone reading this is having a wonderful week!

What I’m looking forward to:  Supper with our dear friends Derek and Rachel tonight!  And getting to see family next weekend for Father's Day.
Milestones:  You are bulking up for delivery.  You will at least double if not close to triple your weight by the time we get to meet you!

twenty-eight weeks = start of third trimester!

Date/How Far Along: June 4, 2013 = 28 weeks and 3 days.  We made it into our third trimester!  I'm getting so excited to meet the little guy.  I have a feeling the summer is going to fly by.
Size of baby: Football.  We got sick of the fruit and vegetable references.  We'll see how the last trimester goes :)
Sleep: The last two nights have been great, but I still feel tired.  It's not quite the tired I felt back in the first 15 weeks, but it's definitely exhaustion.  I've also had trouble falling back to sleep if I wake up past 5:30am because the sun is SO bright streaming into our room.  I guess it's good baby prep.
Total Weight Gain:  I assume I'll hit the 20 pound mark on Friday.  We'll see.
Symptoms:  I've had headaches this past week, but I think it's my body craving more water.  I feel like I drink so much water and have to pee constantly, but my head still hurts.  I've also had just general muscle soreness, mostly in my abdominal/hip/low back.
Movement:  Still a lot and still so strong.  I am also able to feel where a body part is because my abdomen will be quite hard in specific spots.  He sits mostly on my right side and that's where I feel most of his movements.
Maternity Clothes:  There's no turning back on those :)  I am still wearing t-shirts, but it's funny when I'm outside I get a bit of an updraft of wind because my bump is making my shirt fan out.  Makes for a cold stomach on walks since it hasn't been very warm.  I did end up ordering a bunch of dresses from Old Navy and kept three of them.  I wore one to another shower we had last weekend.  (Click here for a photo or just check out the dress in the photo above.)  I actually got that one in pink and blue.  I think they're a tiny bit long, but I'm short, so it is what it is.  At least they fit and don't look like burlap sacks.
Go-to eats:  Yesterday I just wanted meat and I ate a large bunch of pickles.  I've been making meal plans to keep us from eating out and it's funny to see what I come up with.  Our grocery trips are also humorous to me because there are items that I wouldn't usually buy (bakery cookies, Reeses Puffs, veggie dip), but my pregnant body wants them.  We've been loving Capri Suns lately too.
Best moment/s of the week:  Last weekend was wonderful.  The babe and I went to a baby shower with my youth group girls and it was so much fun.  I felt so blessed!  They were also so generous even though they're all college students.  We got a lot of cute toys and clothes and some great baby necessities.  Before the shower I got to go to prenatal yoga with two good pregnant friends and have coffee with them after.  We actually had a dance party during yoga too.  So fun.  Sunday John cleaned out the garage and it looks phenomenal now and it makes the nesting part of me SO happy.  We got to have supper with my sister Erin and her husband Ryan on Sunday night too.  We also went to Ikea for some finishing touches for the nursery.  I'll post about it soon!
Hardest moment/s of the week:  Feeling a disconnect from John.  We just get so busy and are both so tired at the end of the day that it's hard to connect or even have the energy to talk to each other.  We got a date night on Saturday, so that was wonderful.  It was much needed!
Gender:  The Dragon Warrior is a boy.

What I wish people knew:  I stress about pregnancy/labor and delivery/baby thoughts sometimes and I'm sorry if I complain too much.

What I’m looking forward to:  Tonight we are hosting a family get-together because some of my relatives are here from Nebraska.  I'm excited to see them and my mom and sisters.
Milestones:  You can now taste and smell and make little baby tears :)

twenty-seven weeks.

Date/How Far Along: May 28, 2013 = 27 weeks and 3 days.  I hope you all had a fabulous long Memorial Day Weekend!  John and I got a good number of tasks crossed off our to-do lists!

Size of baby: Romaine Lettuce

Sleep: I have some good nights and some really bad nights, but have gotten more good nights than bad at least.  One night last week I was able to sleep until 5:30 before I had to pee, but another night I was up every two hours until I finially decided to get up at 6:15am.  I've noticed too that once I wake up it is sometimes harder for me to go to sleep because either my thoughts are running wild or the baby decides it's time to jazzerise in my uterus and he completely wakes me up.  I would assume it will only get rougher from here trying to navigate around an ever-growing belly.

Total Weight Gain:  No idea.  Midwife appointment in a week and a half.

Symptoms:  I have felt great the past week besides the sleep issue, hence being tired.  I think I have my leg cramps under control.  I haven't had any weird cravings and overall I haven't felt too achy.

Movement:  So much and it's so wonderful, even at 3am when it makes me unable to fall back to sleep.  John likes to asks it the baby has been moving around during the day.  I love that he's interested.

Maternity Clothes:  Yup.  I can still fit into my old t-shirts, but some of them are starting to pop out at the bottom because of my bump.  I've found some great maternity clothes steals, but it still seems like so much money for clothes I might wear a few months.  Hopefully most of the items will work for my next pregnancy and I will be able to pass them along to other pregnant family or friends when I'm done with them.  I did break down and buy a few dresses online that will hopefully come on Friday/Saturday.  I bought them from Old Navy.  The only dress I've found so far is one from H&M.  I wore it to our first baby shower on Saturday (Click here to see a photo.)  It was only $12.95 and very comfortable!

Go-to eats:  Meat, but then vegetarian.  Salads again.  Light, summer foods.

Best moment/s of the week:  Our first baby shower.  I got to see so many friends from out of town and other family and friends came.  It was so wonderful!  I felt so loved and was so humbled by how loved the baby already is.  He got a lot of great books and baby essentials.  It was even more fun after I brought the gifts home because John was excited to see what we got and helpful with putting them away.  Yesterday was a great day for John and I and baby too.  We went to Target for hopefully our last registry trip.  I've been managing them online, but it's nice to actually be in the store to scan items.  We made some big item decisions and feel good about what we've got on there.  We also stopped at TJMaxx and I think John had just as much fun looking as I did.  He picked this out and I picked this out :) I also got to walk with another pregnant friend yesterday morning.

Hardest moment/s of the week:  The weather has been rainy and crummy, but honestly it has been a great week!

Gender:  The baby is a Mr.

What I wish people knew:  I've been hard on people here lately, but I didn't necessarily mean it as harshly as it may have came across.  I want people to know that I'm thankful for them, thankful when they offer help or a kind word, when they bring gifts for the baby or just ask me how I'm doing.  I'm thankful for listening ears and the vulnerability that comes when others share their journeys of pregnancy and birth.

What I’m looking forward to:  I get two lunch dates this week and another baby shower on Saturday.  I'm so excited to see all my ladies that have come home from college and other pursuits!

Milestones:  You are now practicing inhaling and exhaling and have regular sleeping and waking cycles.

twenty-six weeks.

Date/How Far Along: May 20, 2013 = 26 weeks and 2 days.
Size of baby: Head of Lettuce
Sleep: I did poorly at the goal of going to bed earlier and I also have started experiencing calf cramps in the night.  They are excruciating!  The one I had on Thursday night kept me up for an hour and is still sore today after icing it and stretching it out.  I've found that flexing my foot towards my knee helps when I feel it coming on, so the last couple nights haven't been as bad.  The joys of pregnancy :)  Here's another post from a mom about her experience with them: http://mymommymanual.com/28-weeks-pregnancy-calf-cramps-to-wake-the-dead/.  From everything I've read no one really knows what causes them for sure or how to fix them.
Total Weight Gain:  I am no longer weighing myself at home (technically at work), only at my appointments.  I'll have an updated weight gain the first week of June.
Symptoms:  Calf cramps and exhaustion have been issues this week.  My body is so tired that I need to remind myself to slow down.  That is a really hard mindset for me to get into.  John has really tried to be helpful by making me sit down, but it is difficult when I feel there are projects and chores to get done.
Movement: He's still a crazy little mover.  I don't know if it'll every get old for me to feel.  I love this part of pregnancy so much. Two nights ago he was kicking/punching both sides of my stomach.  John and I were both talking to him.  There were a few that startled me because they were so strong.  I am amazed at how strong he already is and I'm sure the kicks will get harder as time goes by.  John loves feeling him and likes to talk to him.  The babe definitely knows his voice which just gives me warm fuzzys.  He's just as much in love with this babe as I am.
Maternity Clothes:  Mostly, not all today though.  Sometimes I still find an article of clothing that works ok with my belly bump.  My t-shirts still fit, but they are starting to poof out at the bottom.  I think I've settled on my dressy outfit for our first baby shower this coming Saturday, so I'm not as stressed about that.  I'll probably take next week's bump photo in that outfit because I think it's so cute :)  (I wrote a more detailed post about the maternity clothes I've loved so far here: http://emhammar.blogspot.com/2013/05/pregnancy-and-maternity-clothes.html)
Go-to eats:  Almonds.  Otherwise pretty much anything.
Best moment/s of the week: Celebrating my sister Erin's birthday on Friday night and spending time with Hannah and Ethan on Saturday.  I also got to spend time with Harper on Friday.  We had a picnic. Getting the rest of the baby's room painted!  We got our pool set up yesterday too.  We are ready for summer!
Hardest moment/s of the week:  The stinking leg cramps.
Gender:  Little Hammar is a boy.

What I wish people knew: Sometimes thoughtless and even thoughtful comments can be hurtful.  My worries/stresses/joys/excitements about pregnancy are very real to me and I've had to learn who best validates those for me.  I hate being brushed off.  I've had some people say hurtful words, so I've since chosen not to share as much with them.

What I’m looking forward to:  Our first baby shower on Saturday.  I have friends coming from out of town for it so I'm so excited to see them!
Milestones: You are soaking up my antibodies to prepare you for the outside world and you're also batting your new little eyelashes :)

twenty-five weeks.

Date/How Far Along: May 13, 2013 = 25 weeks and 2 days.

Size of baby: Cauliflower

Sleep: I have been sleeping well, although I've been very tired.  I'm still swearing by my pregnancy pillow :)  I plan to make a conscious effort to get to bed earlier this week.

Total Weight Gain:  I slipped in right under 150 lbs at my last appointment, so I've gained about 16 pounds.  Just saying that amount makes my insides feel a little yucky, but I have to keep telling myself I'm doing such a beautiful task and gaining weight is a good thing.  I found this website that breaks down where the weight goes and that helped me.  Check it out here:  http://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/healthy-weight-gain

Symptoms:  I feel I've been a bit more emotional this week.  I really want tasks to get done around the house, especially now that it's nice outside.  John is such a great support for me.  He really does try everything he can to make me feel better.  He's our little protector too, asking me if I'm overdoing it or making me take breaks.  He's great.

Movement:  He is punching and kicking and flipping and squirming in there and I'm loving every minute.  There are times I can actually feel him kick/punch on both sides on my abdomen.  Last week, John and I were howling with Comet and the baby was kicking so much for John to feel.  It was so funny.  Who knows if he was scared or excited, but I'm sure when he comes out he'll know his big brother's noises.  On Saturday we had an Easter celebration with my side of the family and two of my sister's and my mom got to feel him move.  They were so excited, which just warms my heart.  At night though before even asking I held John's mom's hand to my belly.  He stopped moving around when I did that, but John was determined for her to feel it so he just got down to belly level and talked to him for five minutes so Sue could feel his kicks.  I couldn't tell if it was more special for me that John was talking to him or that Sue was so happy to feel him.  Ahhh!  This baby is so loved :)

Maternity Clothes:  Of course.  There's no turning back at this point.  My in-laws got me a gift card for Mother's Day for Kohls because they have maternity clothes.  It will definitely be put to good use.  I have two weeks to find a cute dress for my first baby shower.  I did try one on this week at Kohl's but it didn't look maternity it just looked like a fitted dress on the top and a flowing sack on the bottom.  Yuck.  Crossing my fingers I'll find something.

Go-to eats:  I made the best Teriyaki Pork and Asian Slaw last week and it was so delicious!  I've been trying to be more adventurous because I don't want the baby to only eat our usual.  The menu plan for this week though is again pretty boring.  I have been craving almonds and sushi.

Best moment/s of the week:  Having my family and John's mom feel the baby.  Having a wonderful first Mother's Day which included a walk with Comet, a free Twins game, sushi and DQ (and of course time with the best husband in the world).  Supper with a friend last Wednesday and enjoying family time on Saturday.  It was a fabulous week!

Hardest moment/s of the week:  Being emotional.  The high ups are great, but the breakdowns stink.  I feel bad for John, but I think he has a good understanding that they have a lot to do with feeling overwhelmed and hormonal.  Sorry sweetheart and thanks for being so great.

Gender:  The babe is a boy :)

What I wish people knew:  The acknowledgement of pregnancy difficulties has been a stress release for me.  When I give myself permission to talk about how the pregnancy has made me feel without fear of judgement I feel very healthy.  Talking about it honestly has also helped me to process through all the changes that have happened and the decisions that have to be made.  I'm continually realizing that being super mom includes being vulnerable.

What I’m looking forward to:  Cherry Berry date with some of my youth group girls on Wednesday afternoon and a lunch date on Friday.

Milestones:  You've developed a sense of equilibrium.  You can tell when you're right-side up and upside down.

twenty four weeks = six months!

Date/How Far Along: May 7, 2013 = 24 weeks and 3 days.

Size of baby: Canteloupe.

Sleep: No complaints about sleep.  I've been more tired, but that could be because it's gotten nice out and we've been walking a lot.

Total Weight Gain:  We have a midwife appointment on Friday so we'll see.  I might be close to 150.  Argh.  Today's little reading from one of my pregnancy phone apps said to keep telling myself, "I am not fat, I am growing a baby."  I think I'll have to write that down somewhere so I can look at it everyday.

Symptoms:  Random aches and pains.  There are muscles that I didn't even know I had that will hurt if I turn over in bed wrong or sit for too long in one position.  My hips/lower back have been tight too.  I guess they're just trying to support the weight in the front.

Movement:  He is a little mover in there!  John has felt him now so that's wonderful for me.  I don't know if he thinks being able to feel him is quite as exciting as I do, but I was glad he got to feel it.  Now if my family asks to feel I don't feel bad because John has already felt it.

Maternity Clothes:  There's been a weird little turn for me.  I didn't used to like wearing long-sleeve t-shirts that were fitted because I felt like I was fat and every roll was exposed (John and I have argued over it numerous times.), but now I've been wearing all my long-sleeve shirts.  I figure at least I'm getting good use out of them.  I now know there are a few baby showers planned, so I'm looking for a cute dress or two.  We'll see how that goes.

Go-to eats:  Toasted peanut butter and jelly.  Almonds.  Cheese.  This weekend I wanted Ruby Red Squirt so bad, but we couldn't find it anywhere.

Best moment/s of the week:  John and my sister Hannah did a great job finishing their trail race on Saturday.  It was freezing, but fun for me to watch.  (Finish Line Photo!) Painting two of the nursery walls and picking out the blue color we want for the other two walls.

Hardest moment/s of the week:  Just when I feel like I've settled into this pregnancy, into feeling strong at yoga and mentally sound my body changes.  My hips were getting more flexible and I was feeling like I had a pretty good sense of my changing balance, but last week I was so tight and felt like I was starting all over again.

Gender:  Baby Hammar is a little boy :)

What I wish people knew:  Google/the Internet can be an incredibly helpful, yet devastatingly painful and stress-inducing tool during pregnancy.  Use it wisely.  If a piece of information is startling, back up, take a deep breath and maybe come back to it later or disconnect for the day completely.

What I’m looking forward to:  Supper with a friend tomorrow night.  A Latt get together on Saturday.  Mother's Day at the Twins Game.

Milestones:  You're gaining fat, so your little body is starting to fill itself out, making you look more like a miniature newborn.

Monday, April 29, 2013

twenty-three weeks.

Date/How Far Along: April 29, 2013 = 23 weeks and 2 days.

Size of baby: Grapefruit.  Seems like these fruit/vegetable references are all over the place.

Sleep: It has honestly been pretty good the past week.  I don't move as much now that I have the Snoogle pillow.  I even slept a few nights until 5:30am before I had to pee.

Total Weight Gain:  I warned John that coming up I might have a meltdown about weight gain.  I know the babe is getting what he needs because I have been gaining weight, but in the next few weeks I'll probably pass over 150 lbs and that feels gross.  For the duration of this pregnancy I should be between 160-170ish to gain the recommended amount, but I've never been above 145, so it might be a bit of a struggle.  I haven't decided if it's time for me to start weighing in backwards at the clinic or  not, just so I don't obsess over it.

Symptoms:  Not really too much this week.  My stomach muscles have been sore again, but I'd imagine that will be a pretty regular occurrence due to stretching.

Movement:  One day last week it was almost all day, but most days he's nestled comfortably on my bladder so I have to pee all the time.  I feel him the most when I'm laying down.  I think I can feel him from the outside, but it's hard to distinguish between what I'm feeling outside and inside.

Maternity Clothes:  I'm still sporting my regular yoga pants and t-shirts, but not much other than that.  I found pants and capris that are maternity and fit, but now that it's getting warmer I might have to find some other spring/summer pieces.

Go-to eats:  Cereal is a staple right now.  I'm still loving salads and we had to make Chicken Caesar wraps on Saturday night because that sounded so good.  I'm going to make Wagon Wheel Taco Pasta Salad today at work because that sounded so wonderful.

Best moment/s of the week:  The warm weather!  John and I got to hang out on Saturday and I got to see Erin and Ryan's new place.  I also got to babysit my dear little friend Harper (last nanny family) and that was so much fun.  She's growing up SO fast!  I met a new friend on Saturday at yoga and we got Starbucks.  We both order Chai :)

Hardest moment/s of the week:  John wasn't feeling well yesterday so that was hard.  I hate to see him feeling sick.  It's no fun.  Plus I am not super good at entertaining myself, not something I'm proud of.

Gender:  Baby Hammar is a little boy :)

What I wish people knew:  John and I have felt both empowered and pulled around during this pregnancy.  We have learned though that medical professionals can't really make us do anything we don't want to do.  Now we want what's best for the baby hand's down, but it has been a blessing to be able to present a united front when we say we don't want unnecessary interventions.

What I’m looking forward to:  A girl date with a friend on Tuesday night.  Yoga.  My sister Hannah and John are running a 7-mile race on Saturday in Mankato, so that will be exciting.

Milestones:  Your ears are fully developed so you can hear me and daddy and whoever else wants to talk to you :)  I've been reading you books about dogs, so you're ready to meet your big brother Comet when you come out.

Monday, April 22, 2013

twenty-two weeks.

Date/How Far Along: April 22, 2013 = 22 weeks and 2 days.  Happy Earth Day!

Size of baby: Papaya.

Sleep: I caved in a bought a Snoogle at Bed Bath and Beyond.  My favorite yoga teacher was raving about it at class and kept saying that even though it's expensive it is useful after pregnancy.  Her kids and husband use it now.  It is wonderful.  It honestly helps me get more restful sleep and my hips haven't been quite as sore when I wake up.  I move it from the couch to the bed everyday and John and Comet have even enjoyed it!  (Click here for photos :)

Total Weight Gain:  Maybe another pound since my midwife appointment.  I weighed myself this morning right after eating a big bowl of cereal though.  Who knows.

Symptoms:  The pinch in my back and general soreness.  I should probably add that I'm emotional most of the time.  Poor John, he's been so great in all of this.  I do feel bad when I'm crying and he just has to sit there until I'm done.

Movement:  Oh so much!  He is very active in the morning, which John laughed is not a good thing for him.  I'm still so anxious for John to be able to feel him kicking.

Maternity Clothes: Mostly.  I can't remember the last time I wore regular jeans, maybe the end of March.  I am getting so much wear out of the maternity jeans and leggings I have.  It is just not fun to be uncomfortable, so I'm sticking to what feels good.  Thankfully so much of what is available for pregnant mommas is cute.

Go-to eats: Salad and cheese.  Pickles made a comeback this week.

Best moment/s of the week:  There were so many great times this week!  My sister and her husband finally got to close on their house on Thursday and we're so happy for them.  We got to celebrate with El Loro on Thursday night.  They met a puppy yesterday that they are hoping to adopt, so we're crossing our fingers about that.  I got to try a new class at Blooma on Thursday and I was the only person that showed up due to weather, so it was just me and the teacher.  John and I got frozen yogurt and looked at baby clothes on Saturday.  When we got home from being out the mail had came and we got our first few cloth diapers!  I was excited!  (Here's the colors we got.)  Yesterday we had a picnic in the park while we played with Comet.  (Picnic included Cheetos, pickles, juice boxes and two Reese's eggs)  Such a wonderful week!

Hardest moment/s of the week:  The weather.  We got a ton of snow and it's the later part of April.  I can finally see the sun today, so I plan to enjoy it because there is supposedly more snow on the way.  Yuck.  Hearing there was something "not quite right" on the ultrasound.  Argh, modern medicine.

Gender:  We're having a baby boy :)

What I wish people knew:  That sometimes I feel useless.  I know I'm making a baby and all, but I'm not supposed to use cleaning supplies, not supposed to lift, not supposed to reach, not supposed to paint, not supposed do this or that and blah, blah, blah.

What I’m looking forward to:  I'm looking forward to a peaceful week and the possibility of a 60 degree day on Friday/Saturday.

Milestones:  You are developing sleep cycles.  You'll probably sleep between 12-14 hours a day.  I imagine that will be a little difficult for me once you're bigger and want to be awake at midnight or 3am.  I might not enjoy it then, but I look forward to it because that means we're getting closer to meeting you!

Monday, April 15, 2013

twenty-one weeks.

Date/How Far Along: April 15, 2013 = 21 weeks and 2 days.

Size of baby: Pomegranate. (Erin you'll have to make a special trip over every Saturday to write for me :)

Sleep: The bump is continually protruding, so it is getting increasingly more difficult for me to sleep on my stomach.  I've taken to enjoying my left side mostly, but my left arm falls asleep, so I'm forced to roll over.  I'm thinking I'm in the market for a pregnancy pillow, but can't decide on which one.

Total Weight Gain:  Total after 20 weeks and 6 days I had gained 10 pounds.  Puts me right where I need to be for the recommended weight gain.  I'm happy as long as the babe is getting what he needs.

Symptoms:  My abs have stopped being so sore, so the stretching that needed to take place must've happened.  My back still has a little pinch, but who knows if that's pregnancy related.  I'm overall doing great.  I can't complain!

Movement:  Lots.  Some days more than others.  At our ultrasound he was nestled right between my pelvic bones and didn't want to move much for the technician.  Hopefully he likes to snuggle once he's here too.

Maternity Clothes: Yup, nothing else is really that comfortable.  I can still fit into my regular t-shirts so that's fine, but I've been rocking my maternity leggings, maternity jeans or yoga pants.  I initially thought that most of my sweatpants would just stretch with me, but they actually hurt because they elastic is too tight.  Interesting tidbit of information I learned.

Go-to eats: Salads.  I seriously can't get enough.  Cheese.  I was craving pickles the other day, but didn't actually eat any, so the feeling must have passed.

Best moment/s of the week:  Our ultrasound and finding out that Baby Hammar is a boy.  It was so exciting to see the baby on the screen for 45 minutes.  I know I just stared in awe and I'm pretty sure I was a little teary.  I loved having John there too.  We got to see that everything was going well, that his heart was beating strong and he was growing.  Cutting the cake was a blast.  John is SO excited.  (Me too, but it was so cute to watch him.)  He was talking about how he's so excited to take him to Gopher hockey games once he gets older.  He is going to be such a great dad.  My heart just melted when he was talking about our boy.  So cute!  It was fun to watch my dad when we found out too.  He has four girls and one boy, so I'm pretty sure he is psyched for a grandson.  This babe is so lucky to be born into so much love!

Hardest moment/s of the week:  I had one day last week that was so emotional.  The day was hard then I spilled salad dressing everywhere (like on the walls and floor and everything), then I burnt my English muffin.  John came to the rescue, but later said he was having a hard time not bursting out with laughter.  It is hilarious now, but at the time I was not in too good of a mood.  I have also started to realize that I've gotten more uptight during this pregnancy (I was before too, not my proudest attribute), but I think it gets in the way of truly embracing the moment.  I'm going to work on it.  I need more dance parties, laughter and spontaneity in my life.

Gender:  Baby Hammar is a boy.  Comet is going to have a little brother!  Click here for a more detailed post on how we found out :)

What I wish people knew:  My hormones are crazy, so cut me a little slack if I need it :)

What I’m looking forward to:  My sister Erin and her husband Ryan are closing on their house on Thursday!  They've been waiting a while for this and I'm so happy for them to be able to own their own home.  It'll be a bit of a bummer because they're moving further away from us, but I'm excited anyway.  Erin is great at decorating so I'm sure their house will be so cute!

Milestones: The buds for your permanent teeth are forming and every as your growth slows all of your organs continue to develop.

Baby Hammar is... (drum roll)...

A BOY!

We got to enjoy the company of our family last night to find out that our little one is a boy.  I know John was excited and he said he even saw my dad smile.  Since he only has one son and four daughters I think he is excited to have a grandson.  I think it's going to be hard for us (me at least) to not buy cute little boy clothes.  My mom and I are hopefully going soon to pick out fabric for his quilt.  We are having a little boy.  Shoutout to our friend Melissa for making a great cake, both tasty and creative!  Thank you Mel!

Is Baby Hammar a Boy or Girl?

Our twenty week ultrasound is tomorrow.  Holy buckets am I excited!  (John is too)  We planned it on a Friday so he could take a half day and extend his weekend.  I am so happy we both get to see the babe on the screen this time.  It just wasn't the same experience to go to the dating ultrasound on my own.  We have our midwife appointment beforehand, so it'll be a fun-filled afternoon of appointments.  I'm praying everything with the babe is going great.

We plan to find out the sex of the babe.  It seems like the popular thing to do nowadays, but John has always wanted to know and now that we're so close I'm ready to know too.  I'm glad it will allow us to register for more than just gender neutral items and that it will allow us to decorate the nursery for a boy or a girl.  I can't wait to pick out paint samples.  I think it will make it feel like it's getting closer and more real for me too.  I'm happy I'll be able to start calling the babe a he or she.  It'll be fun to see how it changes John's connection to the baby too.  Since he still can't feel it kicking and dancing yet he'll at least be able to know the gender.

We are planning to have a Gender Reveal Cake Party on Saturday evening with our families.  (Pretty sure I'll be dying of anticipation all day Saturday!)  My dear friend Melissa said she would make a cake for us, plus she's excited because she'll be the first to know if the baby is a boy or girl.  The cake will be pink or blue in the middle, pretty simple, but such a wonderful surprise.

We've definitely taking votes on what the sex is from numerous sources.  For me sometimes I lean towards girl, sometimes I lead towards boy.  John is leaning towards boy, although we're both just praying for a healthy baby.  My sister Erin (boy) and her husband (girl) made a bet and who ever loses has to buy the other a date night :)  My other sisters Hannah and Caitie think it's a girl and my brother Caleb thinks it is a boy.  I think my mom has sided with those who believe the baby is a girl.  At Easter John's parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles took a poll, 3 for a girl, 4 for a boy.

Here are some other gender "predictors"/old wives' tales that I've found:

The Chinese Gender Predictor: Takes Due Date and My Birth Date
Girl

Am I carrying high (girl) or low (boy)?
I'd say high, but I don't really know any different.
Girl

Heartbeat? 140+ (girl), below 140 (boy).
Both times it's been 150 bpm.
Girl

Craving sweet (girl) or sour/salty (boy)?
Not usually sweet, except for the past couple of days.  I'd put cheese in the salty category :)
Boy

Mayan Way:  Year of Conception (2012) & Mother's Age at Conception (25)
If both are odd or even, a girl.  If one is odd, one even, a boy.
Boy

Complexion:  If it's full of blemishes (girl), having that pregnant glow (boy).
It's said a baby girl steals her momma's beauty.  I'd say my zits have actually cleared up a little.
Boy

Lots of morning sickness in the beginning or still (girl), little to no queasiness (boy)
Boy

Cold feet and dry hands = boy
I have both cold and dry hands and feet!
Boy

If you eat the butts on a loaf of bread it'll be a boy, from the middle a girl.
 I love the butts!
Boy

Side Preference:  Laying of Left Side = Boy, Right Side = Girl
Boy

Ring Test: Tie wedding ring to a piece of string and hang it over my tummy.
If it swings back and forth, it's a girl.  If it swings in a circle, it's a boy.
I did it three times and it did both each time.
?????

Looks like the boy supporters are winning according to these Old Wives' Tales.  We'll see on Saturday!  I'll definitely be posting on here soon after.  Be on the lookout!
